Avoiding Low Budget Marketing Ploys That Do More Harm Than Good
Have you ever seen the man dressed up like a giant chicken trying to hand out flyers for a local chicken joint that is opening up? This is the classic low budget marketing ploy that will leave onlookers and consumers rolling their eyes. Avoiding low budget marketing ploys that do more harm than good is a worthwhile endeavor, and while it may not always be so apparent what will adversely reflect on your business and what will be the attention getter you need, there are some simple common sense tips you can employ.
1. Do not engage in any kind of marketing campaign you cannot sustain. While it may require a full 12 months of your advertising budget funds to get that well known morning drive radio talk show host to do one commercial for your company, your inability to sustain this campaign and have her or him do the commercial five days a week will negate its effectiveness. Especially on radio, listeners need to hear a jingle a number of times before taking note. A one time spot may be completely wasted money.
2. If you must go the dressed up like a chicken route, stick out! Instead of the tried and true chicken, why not bribe your niece – a young woman with more than 10 years of ballet classes behind her – to dress up in an attractive costumer and do her dance move in front of your business while handing out flyers? It may not take more than the promise of pitching in for her car in the summer when she gets her license or simply talking to her parents about buying her the car outright! There was never a better way to capitalize on family relationship! Sticking with the regular chicken costume rental, however, will not lead to more customers, but more or less to individuals trying to avoid the embarrassing sight.
3. No matter how vain you are, do not do your own commercials or permit your BFF girlfriend to star in them. Cable television is filled with homegrown commercials that are set apart by lousy sound quality, contrived situations, women in impossibly short skirts, and a solid lack of ad words. If you decide to go the TV route, have a professional company do the spots for you.
4. A list entreating you to be proactive in avoiding low budget marketing ploys that do more harm than good would not be complete without mentioning your presence at political events. Favoring one party over another out loud may seriously inhibit your business! Avoid politics whenever possible and if you feel you simply must show up for the cause, do it in private rather than as a business entity. Conversely, if you are Hades bent on making a business wide political statement, go all out and make your sentiments known. Your only hope of recovering from the loss of business will be to entice those on your site to come and frequent your business over any other they may have done business with in the past.
Have a good day and to your success!
